SMASH LOSES TO HYFLYERS IN QUARTERFINALS AT TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

MIAMI – Brooks Koepka made quick work of Phil Mickelson in a clash of major titans, but Smash GC was knocked out of the Quarterfinals of the Team Championship with a 2-1 loss to HyFlyers GC.

Captain Koepka beat Mickelson 6 & 4. Koepka was 1 up through six holes, then took control by winning four of the next five holes.

“Played good today,” Koepka said after his win. “Very pleased with it. No real mistakes.”

But Jason Kokrak lost to Cameron Tringale 2 & 1 with a frustrating finish, as Kokrak hit two shots in the water on the match-ending hole. Tringale won four of the final five holes to rally past Kokrak.

Smash found the water again late in the Foursomes match with an errant drive from Wolff on the next-to-last hole, the par-5 first. It didn’t cost Smash the hole, but they managed to only halve the final seven holes in the match after falling 1 down.

Smash will now sit out Saturday’s semifinals but will return on Sunday to play in the final day of stroke play. They will compete with the other teams who lost in the quarterfinals for final position of the nine through 12 spots.
